Since we are always on the ready to blast off with these ladies. we had to reach out to Alexander to get all the deets behind their edgy hair slay, incorporating modern takes on classic looks.
It was all about creating a “timeless glam,” said Alexander. “We wanted to make them look current, but still have their classic looks. Terry is known for ponytails, Cindy is known for straight hair and Rhona, we decided to go edgier with a short and blunt look. We wanted everyone to have their own identity.”
From Terry’s gorgeous top knot to Cindy’s down-to-there inches, read on for his breakdown on each of the ladies’ chart-topping looks using units and extensions from Osmond Imported Human Hair.
Terry Ellis’ Textured Top Knot
“For that kind of half up half down look, you can use textured hair and just manipulate it – whether that be curl, wavy, loose,” said Alexander. When not crowned in the first part of the video you can see Terry actually rocks a front-facing top knot Alexander created using pre-curled wefts to wrap around Terry’s own sleeked up hair.
“I used a one-inch curling iron like a wand, wrapping the hair to build texture in it so it’s kind of the same texture as the down partin the back. Then I brushed it out to make it more soft and flowy.”
Once wrapped and pinned around her bun, he used a pomade and a serum to help manage it so it doesn’t have any fly away. “At that point, I manipulated it with my hands, using open bobby pins to pin it into the look that I want.
For the back, Alexander said “the bigger the hair the better!” The hair texture, he said will also determine how it fares. Naturally curly hair is going to “swell up and just get bigger” and naturally straight hair will loosen up throughout the day into a “soft wave”.
Cindy Herron’s Bone Straight Inches
Cindy’s center-part down-to-there look would not have been complete without Alexander’s flat-iron magic.
“For that look, you have to flat iron that hair to the heavens above!,” he said, cautioning that you can have too much of a good thing.
“The more you brush hair when it is so fine and straight like that with a paddle brush can get it static-y. What I like to do is use a little bit of light hold hair spray and spray that as I flat iron so it looks uniform and stays down and doesn’t lift up fly away.”
Rhona Bennett’s Beachy Bob
Starting on a basic straight wig unit, Alexandar created a beachy blunt bob for the group’s newest member. With Blunt cuts are super edgy right now. With messy, tousled hair super on trend right now, Alexander said the key is to keep the look strong.
I cut texture into the ends so it’s kind of like jagged-ish, where it looks messy and purposeful. I also used one-inch curling iron for this look, too. But, instead of wrapping around like a wand, I curled bits and pieces [in opposite directions] to where it could look like beachy, messy, bed hair kind of fun.” He also used a bit of texture spray to give it a “little gritty and unbothered” feel.
The Billboard-charting tune is the first single from the ladies’ Electric Cafe which drops March 30, 2018 before they kick off their European tour in April with stops in London, Amsterdam and Holland.
