This past weekend Ciara served up a tousled take on top knots that had folks swooning. The red carpet slayer hit up the NFL Honors event Saturday with husband Russell Wilson rocking a twisted updo that caught more stares than even her revealing neckline.

The look featured two loosely gathered mini top knots and hair accents that brought serious glam to the messy bedhead look. We caught up with her go-to stylist César DeLeön Ramirêz who shared deets behind the ‘do.

“I was inspired to do something completely unexpected,” César told Hype Hair. “I knew I wanted to do something up, that was fun and cool and that would highlight Ciara as a music artist.”

Ditching her normally blonder tresses, the diva’s look brought extra drama with a darker tone that paired perfectly with her flawless face beat and red pout painted by Yolonda Fredrick.

“We have been dark for quite sometime now,” he explained. “We tried it for a shoot and really thought it was time for a dark moment.”

To achieve the look, César first sprayed in Mizani Lived In Texture Spray into a custom unit from his forthcoming WildForm hair line. “This adds volume and texture making it easier to twist and pin hair into knots. Starting off with [this] as a prep is always key to maintaining your style all night long.”

He then center parted and pulled the hair into two ponytails. The trick, he said, to set the top knot is to “hair pin” each ponytail as you twist instead of using hair bands. “Pins create a softer, more effortless look.”

After getting his knots just right, César then sprayed loose pieces with Amika’s heat activated “The Shield Style Extending Spray ($24) and then used the brand’s Silk Glide Iron ($100) to create those magical face framing waves.

Hair goals! Are you feeling the look as much as we are?
